Communion Services
The Sacrament of Communion
Throughout his ministry Jesus ate at table with friends, outcasts, and sinners. In his teachings, he used the table as an image of inclusivity and hospitality. At his last supper with his followers he initiated the mystery of communion.
Empowered by their experience of the risen Christ, the early church met weekly for the proclamation of the Word and the breaking of bread. At Chalmers-Wesley we meet for communion four or five times a year. The elders of the Session usually contact their members to inform them of communion at least a week in advance.
We receive, and are sustained as, the body and blood of Christ. Through Communion we are prepared for eternal life. This is our Eucharist; this is our thanksgiving.
Communion is a meal that is open to everyone. At Chalmers-Wesley we welcome all who proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. There are few barriers here. We encourage everyone regardless of their church affiliation to share in this holy meal. It is a reminder of Jesus' last supper with his followers and a sign of God's enduring love.
Home Communion is available upon request, or recommendation of an elder. The sacrament will be brought to your home, the hospital or other institutional settings. Rev. MacDonald recommends home or hospital communion. It uplifts and encourages all who participate. It is a valuable family experience. Give him a call or send him an email.
