2008-08-23 Côr Meibion De Cymru (The South Wales Male Choir)

Côr Meibion De Cymru (The South Wales Male Choir) is one of the largest in the principality. The choir is proud of its reputation for harmonic singing from a wide repertoire, for example, Welsh tunes, songs from the shows, selections from opera and popular songs. The choir was formed in 1982, to bring together men from a multitude of different choirs, from every valley, and coastal plain, in the East, South and West of Wales. There is also a contingent of ‘exiles’ from Bristol and Wantage. Choristers also regularly travel from as far afield as Southampton and Bedford to attend rehearsals in Wales. The Choir has already toured on many occasions to the USA, Mexico, Canada, France, the Benelux Countries, Monaco, Australia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Spain and Gibraltar. The choir has sung in many prestigious venues, including our mother cathedral of St. Davids Pembrokeshire, as well as cathedrals in Llandaff, Brecon, Hereford, Winchester, Salisbury, and Southwark in London. In Europe, the choir gave performances in the cathedrals of Chartres, Notre Dame, Amiens, Ypres and Hertogenbosch. Other cathedrals include, Calgary in Canada, Brisbane in Australia, the amazing Crystal Cathedral in Los Angeles and San Diego. Concerts have been given in the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, Romsey Abbey, The Colston Hall in Bristol, The Congress Hall in Ottawa and the Great Hall of Parliament in Canberra, not forgetting the many times at our own St. Davids Hall in Cardiff.
