Diaper Drive

Chalmers-Wesley, in conjunction with St. Andrew's United/Presbyterian, Valcartier, works closely with the Holland Center. The Holland Center "promotes the well-being of the English-speaking population of the Greater Quebec City region.  This non-profit centre offers a variety of health and social services for all ages and can help people access services at places outside the centre when required." We learned through the Family and Adult services co-ordinator that there were a number of young families living in poverty and struggling to provide the basics for their infant children. The Holland Center has programs for Low Income Families such as the “OLO” (Oranges, Milk, and Eggs) program and The Support Program for Young Parents.

In 2005, we learned that depending on the age, babies use 8-12 diapers per day. On average, the cost is $80.00 per month, per child. Therefore we decided to launch a Diaper Drive. The diapers collected go to the mothers enrolled at the Holland Center. These mothers have a difficult time being able to afford this expense. This is one way we can alleviate the stress they feel each day trying to gather the basics for their young ones. The diaper sizes needed most are 3, 4, 5, and 6.

In a single year, we have collected close to 4,000 diapers and we hope to exceed that number this year. Our Congregations invite everyone to open their hearts and donate generously. The next time you go out shopping, please pick up a large package of diapers. On the Web, you can visit www.save.ca and have a $2.00 coupon for Pampers Diapers mailed to your home at no cost to you. We will be collecting Diapers all summer and delivering them to the Holland Center once a month. You may drop off donations of diapers at the following locations:
