Project Linus
In 2004, Chalmers-Wesley, along with St. Andrew's United/Presbyterian Church in Valcartier, decided to support the organization of a Project Linus Chapter in the Quebec City region. Our previous minister, Rev. George MacDonald and his wife Paula led the way in the creation of the Quebec City chapter.
Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission:
- First, to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers”.
- Second, to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of needy children. Project Linus is a Canadian Corporation and a registered Canadian charity.
Currently there are over 450 chapters in Canada and the US who have distributed over 1,700,000 handmade security blankets. Our Valcartier, Qc chapter serves the children's ward of the CHUQ and the Ronald McDonald House.
The goal of Project Linus is to deliver 80 blankets five times per year to the children's ward at the CHUQ. We have grown to more than one hundred fifty volunteers and believe we can meet our goal of delivering about five hundred blankets this year.
Project Linus has its own web site which is updated on a regular basis. Please visit them at the following link.
