Sing-Along Messiah
Poster
The Sing-Along Messiah is an annual event which started at Chalmers-Wesley in 1998. It is usually held in mid- to late-November to welcome the Christmas season. This year's Sing-along will be held on Sunday, November 18, starting at 3:00 p.m.
During the Sing-Along, it is you, the audience members, who sing choral selections from Handel's Messiah. We encourage you to bring your score and join in the fun. For singers who do not have their own score, we have a few extras we can lend for the evening. Although we encourage everybody to participate, non-singers are most welcome to come and enjoy the event and sing along when the spirit moves them, especially during the “Hallelujah!” chorus.
Each year, we invite a different director to conduct the singers. This year, we will be led by Raymond Perrin, choir director, professor of music and organist from Trois-Rivières. Marc d’Anjou will accompany us on the organ.
This year we are working in collaboration with CAMMAC (Canadian Amateur Musicians/Musiciens amateur du Canada) who are helping with the organization and publicity of the event.
The event will start approximately 60 minutes of rehearsal during which time the director will review some of the more difficult passages. Following a short break, the director will lead us through the "concert" portion of the evening including arias by selected soloists. If you would like to attend but not sing, you are more than welcome. If you are interested in observing the rehearsal, please come at 3:00 p.m. but if you would rather arrive closer to the start of the concert portion of the evening, arrive around 4:00 p.m.
There is no charge to attend, but we do strongly encourage a free-will offering of at least $10 per person to help cover our expenses. Any profits will go towards Chalmers-Wesley’s organ restoration fund (50%) and CAMMAC (50%).
We are looking forward to seeing you at Chalmers-Wesley United Church, located at 78 rue Ste-Ursule in Old Québec on Sunday, November 18 at 3:00 p.m.
