Marriage, Remarriage and Renewal of Marriage Vows

Openness and welcome to members, adherents, and non-members is the call of Christ to minister to the world.

Services Offered
Chalmers-Wesley offers services for marriage, remarriage and renewal of marriage vows. Marriages are conducted by our minister who will recommend your marriage for approval to the Session of Chalmers-Wesley United Church.

Same-Gender Covenants
We do not presently offer same-gender covenants.

Language
We offer our services in either French or English. In fact, marriages at Chalmers-Wesley are frequently a combination of both English and French.

Marriage Preparation
We take marriage preparation seriously. The minister will meet with couples to discuss their spiritual and religious needs. We will delve into the question of being wed in the presence of God, family and friends. Couples will be asked and encouraged to look within themselves to discover the God that lives there. Couples will be asked to give freely of themselves at the moment they exchange their marriage vows. Just as important, couples will be asked to receive all that another person has to offer during those same vows.

Organ
All musical needs related to the church's historic organ are directed through our Music Director, Alain LeBlond. It is customary for our organist to play at all weddings for which the pipe organ is requested.

Minimum Time Requirement
Our normal minimum time requirement is three (3) months.

Documentation
We accept responsibility for the preparation of all documents. The couple needs to provide us with copies of their birth certificates, and, if divorced, proof of same.

Rehearsal
A rehearsal is offered for those who make this request.

Chalmers-Wesley Sanctuary
Our magnificent church, built in 1853, features a sanctuary with spacious amphitheatre style seating and beautiful stained-glass windows which provide a warm, welcoming and intimate setting. It is the perfect setting for a romantic wedding.

Our office secretary is Shirley Normand. She is a friendly, energetic person who can answer all your administrative questions as they arise.
